According to the National Journal, Barack Obama was the most liberal member of the United States Senate in 2007.
In 2004, the National Journal rated John Kerry as the Senate’s most liberal member. Obviously, those two men have something else in common.
The National Journal is owned by the Atlantic Media Group, which publishes The Atlantic, one of the country’s better publications, so I am prepared to give it the benefit of the doubt. It’s not like it’s the Weekly Standard making these ratings. But this seems like a pretty big coincidence, considering some of the hardcore liberals in the Senate: Ted Kennedy, Bernie Sanders and Russ Feingold, to name just a few.
